Sightseeing in Devbaug
As soon as you enter Devbag you will realise how well suited this name is. The Arabian sea on one side and the Karli river on the other with lines of coconut and areca palms welcome you to Devbag.
Devbaug, which literally translates to 'Gods Garden' truely lives upto its name. A beautiful piece of land jutting out of the mainland with the Karli back waters on one side and Arabian sea on the other Devbaug is amongst the prettiest area in this region near Tarkarli. Devbaug Sangam is the major attraction of Devbaug where the Karli backwaters meets the Arabian sea. Tsunami island is a small piece of land which emerges only during low water levels in the Karli backwater. Tsunami island is the hub of watersports in Tarkarli
Tarkarli - Malvan
Tarkarli beach is part of a long stretch of fine white sand beach which extends to Malvan via Wayari to its north and extends upto Devbaug Sangam where the Karli river meets the arabian sea to its south.
Tarkarli shot into fame after M.T.D.C started the beach resort in Tarkarli and declared Tarkarli as one of the premiere beach destination in Maharashtra. The backwaters of Karli river running almost parallel to the Tarkarli beach imparts Tarkarli an almost surreal beauty. Now even SCUBA diving is available at the southern end of Tarkarli beach at the start of Devbaug village. Tarkarli beach extends upto Malvan jetty from where one can get the boats to Sindhudurg fort the other major attraction of the region. The fort is about 9 kms from Shining Sand Beach Resort.
Dolphin Watch Rides
The chances of spotting a dolphin is highest during boat rides from Devbaug near the shores of Malvan and you could also visit islands like Nivati rocks off the coast from Tarkarli during the ride. The light house island a few nautical miles into thr sea is also a deep sea diving site.
Malvan Rock Gardens
Just Behind the Malvan Police Station, half Kilometer away from Malvan jetty near the Arase Mahal is the Malvan Rock Gardens. Malvan Rock Gardens is a beautifuly manicured garden located just by the sea overlooking the Chivla beach. The rock gardens is a nice place to relax especially in the evenings.
Malvan has a distinct way of preparing food and the Malvani food has an amazing flavour owing to the generous use of coconut. Malvani food especially the non vegetarian fish delicacies are world famous. Malvani cuisines overlap Maharashtrian and Goan cuisines and is a major attraction of any trip to these parts of Konkan.
